Was an engineer. After World War II, they moved to Sunnyvale, CA. After retiring, they moved to Victoria, BC, Canada where he “fell in love with Canada’s west coast”. When his health started failing, they moved back to California to be near their daughter.

There is a John F. Padgett born Nov. 1894 in Fresno 0015, Township 7, that is likely him. If it is, then his parents are H.C. Padgett (b. Nov. 1844 in Indiana), mother Phoebe A. (b. Nov. 1851 (says 1881, but the age listed of 48 would be totally off, then)). This is from the 1900 US census.

John Lyman Padgett appears with Charles H. and Phoebe A. Padgett in Fresno, so the above 1900 listing is him. It also lists him as adopted.
