By the 1906 Western provinces census, Herman and his family are in Taylorboro (near present day Govan), Humboldt Distict, Saskatchewan (taken July 19,1906). The record for his family shows that they immigrated to Canada in 1903. The Govan history book has a bit of history written by his daughter Mabel, which mentions that he came to Saskatchewan in 1903 along his his brother John (“Jack”). The rest of the family was fetched the next year, in 1904.

The Govan history book mentions that herman bought a steam threshing machine in the fall of 1906 (first one in the area).

It also mentions that he built a house in about 1910, which later was owned by Tom Banting.

He suffered a slight stroke in 1921, after which they moved off the farm to Govan proper. In 1928, Herman, his wife and 3 of the kids moved to Victoria, BC... but Herman’s health worsened so they move back to Saskatchewan, this time to Regina. He died 3 weeks after they returned.
